A new direction cut from the old- collage

In my painting I’ve always responded a lot to the energy of the places I go, and being in New York has stimulated my work in an even more dramatic shift than usual. When I arrived I began with a series of large scale painting-drawings on paper in gouache and acrylic which I then started started collaging into and on top of. What began as a solution for problems with one or two pieces quickly evolved into a new body of work, that I regard as being in advance of my older paintings. I’m including one new collage here while I work on updating my website.

The elements of this collage are cut from water based paintings I’ve done over the last several years, and the central figures were inspired by an exhibit of classical Indian miniatures that I saw at the Met in the Fall.
